A junk journal is a mixed media book that is made with repurposed and recycled materials such as paper scraps, sheet music, maps, illustrations and ephemera (think ticket stubs, postcards, greeting cards, photos, etc.). Participants will learn techniques for transforming everyday items into an artistic, individualized journal.
You will choose from a selection of completed book covers that Barbara has prepared for you, because the binding glue has to set up for 24 hours before working with it. She will also demonstrate, and provide instructions, for the process of making a book cover.
You will learn to create the sections, referred to as signatures, and how to install them in to your book cover. The process includes how to fill your journal with pages, pockets, tags and embellishments. You will see samples of completed junk journals and discuss sources for all of the fun extras that go into the making of your journal.
You will leave class with a completed journal along with the knowledge to begin creating your own unique journals. All materials and tools provided.
A junk journal can be anything you want it to be. Take it home and add your personal pictures, collages, memorabilia, writings, and simply be creative! There are no rules.
